2009 Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic
Maserati's new model is for those who like the sportiness of the GranTurismo S, but didn't like the feel of the electrically-actuated gearbox. The 2009 Maserati GranTurismo S automatic adds a six-speed ZF automatic transmission for a smoother driving experience.
The new GranTurismo S Automatic features the same 4.7-liter V-8 found in the GranTursimo S. The V-8 produces 433 hp at 7000 RPM and 361 lb-ft of torque at 4750 RPM with a 7500 RPM redline. The major change lies with the automatic transmission paired with the most powerful V-8 offered on the GranTursimo lineup.
Originally the ZF six-speed transmission became available on the Quattroporte because of owners' complaints about the jerkiness of the electro-actuated auto-clutch manual transmission. Maserati learned from the experience and is hoping to sell more GranTurismos with the addition of the automatic transmission.
The automatic transmission gearshift setup receives elements from the Quattroporte Sport GT-S including the elimination of automatic kick-down in manual mode. The continuously adjustable Skyhook suspension is an option on the GranTurismo S Automatic just as on the normal GranTurismo S. The Skyhook suspension continuously adjusts the suspension to provide a more comfortable ride (or a sportier ride when in sport mode).
